More Than A Song – WK 2

Welcome to WK 2 of my little endeavor. Enjoy this next chapter. or go back and READ WK 1 HERE.

Chapter 3 – Can You Handle the Truth?

So do you believe the truth of who He is? Do you believe what He says to be true about you? Do you live in the truth that brings freedom?

Let me lay some truth on you real quick.

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
(Matthew 3:17 NLT)

For the Lord  your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
(Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)

We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them.
(1 John 5:18 NLT)

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
(Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.
(Ephesians 2:18 NLT)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8 NLT)

For I can do everything through Christ,  who gives me strength.
(Philippians 4:13 NLT)

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
(Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

So do you believe any of that stuff? Do you believe that you as a Christ follower with the Holy Spirit can do all things? Do you believe that He knew you before you were born and had plans set up and available to you before your parents ever saw your face for the first time? Do you believe He has made you for a purpose and He walks with you?

If you don’t, let me tell you something that may blow your minds. It’s all true. It’s all real. It’s all that He wants to place in front of you. He wants to walk with you. He wants to be with you. He made you to be with Him.

So lets say you happen to be reading this and you haven’t given your life to him. There could be numerous reasons you are reading this and I won’t speculate. But let me say something to you. This is what’s waiting for you on the other side. It’s a life with a loving father who wants the best for His boy… His girl. He wants you and longs for you to be close to Him.

Here is what I am not telling you. I did not just tell you that once you give your life to Christ that everything will make perfect sense, life will be perfect and everything will go exactly the way you want it, when you want it. Life will still be hard. But you get to walk it out with a father holding you close. A savior leading the way.

Hey Christ follower, do you live in that truth? No? Well wake up man! Live in the fullness of your salvation. I’m learning this and leaning into this. An old pastor of mine used to talk about something called our Grace Path. In essence, it’s the concept that each one of us has a path that is just for us. Custom tailored for each one of us. Your grace path is not someone else’s.

This book is birthed out of a rough season in my life. I have, in the past, struggled with hearing Gods voice for myself and got off in some crazy tangents for a little bit. I never entered into blatant sin but for sure chose some more hidden sins like isolation, coveting and not believing the truth that I just laid out from scripture.

Since that time period, living in this truth has become a must in my life. I do not play around with this anymore. Spiritually, emotionally and mentally I’m a different person. There is a confidence that I have chosen to live in. Because anything else is a lie.

Joy is such a nicer way to live. Freedom is such a greater place to be. Fanning into flame the truth of His word in my life has made all the difference in my life. What Jesus says about me is the outright truth. What Jesus says about you is the outright truth. He chose us and created us and calls us His own. He loves us and wants to lead us. Not to put anything heavy or ill fitting on us but to bless us with real gifts.

It is the lies of the enemy that tell me I am not good enough. I’ll never measure up. I’m less than and unloved. And to believe those lies is to not believe Jesus. Which honestly is sinful. I don’t particularly aim to live in sin. So I’ve chosen to just start trusting the voice of truth.

The voice of truth says He has given me everything I need and more. He loves me and draws me close to Himself and just wants to be with me. I am free in Him and called by Him to things greater than I could ever imagine for myself.

That’s truth people. That’s the truth of you and me. That’s for sure a place to start doing some serious worshipping! I mean come on. When’s the last time anyone ever told you some good news like that. He is telling us that stuff all the time and if we will open our ears and listen, it’s flipping awesome.

So start listening to that. The freedom of living in that confidence is unbelievable. It unleashes something in you that you can’t imagine. I am not the person I once was. There was a transformation that happened in me the day that I gave my life to Christ. And there was a transformation that happened in me the day that I chose to stop fighting His truth for me.

Here is something interesting. Today, I am in very similar circumstances to the days of hardship that I spoke of. There are obvious differences but it is quite similar. But the biggest difference is me. Maybe some of it is age and wisdom. But the biggest change is that since those days, I have just chosen to believe the truth.

I am a beloved son of the most high God. He has called me worthy and has blessed my life with favor. He has given me some very distinct callings that I know He will bring to pass. He has walked with me through some really dark days and brought me out the other side. Stronger and more assured of myself than I have ever been.

Why don’t you try living in that kind of truth? Give it a go. I know that it might sound like I am over-simplifying things. But really, some of this is just a change of mindset. You have the choice of believing lies or believing truth. It really is your choice. I am quite aware of the way that other voices swirl and get louder than the true ones. I am quite aware that insecurity and fear is easier to fall into. But, the choice to live in truth is worth the effort.

Go back and read some of the scriptures that I laid out at the beginning of this chapter. Find some devotionals about who you really are in the sight of God. Ask Him to start revealing the plans that He has for you. Then just trust it. None of it may seem true at the moment. None of the plans may seem like they are on track to happen. But if He spoke it, it is true and it will happen. Promise.

See you next week!
